What I Learned From Gaining 90 Pounds

Losing weight was not easy. I have always struggled with my weight and at one point I had just given up. Around the time I hit my worst, the number on the scale shot up to 180 pounds. Yes, that's not a typo, I weighed nearly 200 pounds back in 2010 when after having two kids within three years of each other, it was just impossible to lose. 

In retrospect, it might be a good thing that body dysmorphic disorder or a clinical eating disorder or whatever you want to call it made me starve myself as there's no way I would have gotten that far without being sick if I had been well-fed! That year, doctors diagnosed me with diabetes and started referring to me as a fat diabetic. I felt like a failure.

The worst part was that all the things I used to do for fun (dancing, playing soccer) became too difficult because my joints hurt so much. My parents both died from complications related to diabetes and so did one of my brothers-in-law, so it wasn't just about my health anymore; this disease could kill everyone around me too. And so losing weight became about more than just fitting into clothes or wearing makeup again; this fight became life or death for everyone in my family who depended on me.

The Drastic Changes

After being dubbed 'Rudy' by Howard Stern, Tami has been on a weight loss journey that's as emotional as it is physical. But her fans have stuck with her through everything, and there's no denying that their support has made it possible for her to shed pounds. To slim down, Tami had to change her lifestyle completely. She drastically reduced her portion sizes and increased her exercise regime from three times per week to five or six times per week. I’ve gotten used to working out, says Tami. Whenever I get up in the morning, I feel much better. Since starting her new diet, Tami also began going to bed earlier and getting up earlier than usual so she could start her day off right.

The former reality star also learned that drinking plenty of water throughout the day can help you lose weight and stay hydrated. Other tricks of hers include filling up on protein-packed snacks before meals to keep hunger at bay and taking advantage of discounts at work gyms while they're still available before they're gone forever.

Getting Back on Track with Diet, Exercise, and Support

After having her third child, Tami was unhappy with the way she looked and felt. So, she found a trainer, who was also trained in nutrition as well as other areas like pilates, yoga, and more. This helped her to learn how to exercise regularly without being bored.

Then, she created a plan that had meal prep bags filled with vegetables and protein so that she wouldn't have to worry about what to eat during the week. By following this routine, Tami lost weight and has been able to keep it off for years. What's even better is that she's now a certified personal trainer and works with other people who are looking to do the same thing.

Staying Motivated

One of the most difficult aspects of weight loss is staying motivated. At first, it might be just to do some work outfits because you feel like you need to lose some weight feeling good about your body again. But after a few weeks or months, that motivation can start to wear off. That's when those thoughts like well, I'm at my ideal weight now so I don't have to lose any more start popping up in your head.

To keep this from happening and stay motivated to stick with a diet plan, Tami's recommendation is always to get out of your comfort zone and never settle for less than what you deserve in life. You should also make sure you are tracking your progress so you know how far you've come and how far you still have to go. When she had been successful with her weight loss journey, she began noticing other improvements as well. I felt better mentally, she said. I felt healthier.

What I Learned From This Journey

I learned that it takes a lot of dedication, patience, and discipline to get from where I was to where I am today. I've invested in this body, in myself. I took my weight loss journey for me, not for anyone else. No one should ever feel like they have to make these sacrifices on behalf of someone else. You will be judged. You will be teased. You will be advised on how you could lose weight differently or how you could do it better (hint: no one knows what is best for you but you).

Some people would love nothing more than to see your progress derail because they don't want to see you succeed. Don't let them win! You're too damn close already! Remember all those times when your day wasn't going so well? But then something amazing happened. The feeling of accomplishment and happiness is worth everything.

Losing weight is no easy feat, but Tami Roman makes it look simple. On WE tv's Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars, she revealed that her BMI was 46. That means if you take the measurements of her height in meters and divide it by the square of her weight in kilograms, she is dangerously obese, bordering on morbidly obese. But four years ago, Tami decided to change her lifestyle for good with one goal in mind: get healthy! 

I just want to live life, she told Latoya Londono of V103's Super Chats. So, in 2013, she underwent lap band surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The procedure helped Tami shed an astonishing 170 pounds over six months. Now weighing 230 pounds (a healthy range), she says going through the process has been well worth it! I don't want to be 50 or 60 pounds overweight, said Tami Roman. I don't want my children to endure what I went through.
