Sinuses Pressure Points, How To Clear Sinuses Pressure Points? If you’re suffering from sinus pressure or sinus pressure points, there are a few simple steps you can take to help alleviate it. Doing so will help reduce your sinus pressure points and make your symptoms more bearable. The combination of the two will leave you feeling like you have a clearer head and less pain in your face, neck, and other areas that are affected by sinus pressure and congestion.

Four different types of sinus cavities need to be addressed:

  • The maxillary sinus cavity, which can be found behind your cheekbones.
  • The ethmoid sinus cavity, which is in front of your eyes.
  • The sphenoid sinus cavity, in between your eyes.
  • The frontal sinus.
All of these cavities contain mucous membranes. When you have a cold or allergies and start experiencing pain, congestion, or pressure in your face, you are probably feeling an issue with one of these four cavities.

The sinuses are located near the eyes, forehead, cheekbones, and nose. When you have an infection in the sinus cavity, it produces pressure on the brain which causes pain on one side of your head.

Some pressure points will alleviate this pressure if you rub them with a bit of force. Below is a guide to these pressure points:


The LI 19 pressure point is located directly below the nostril on the upper lip. Stimulation of this point relieves a stuffy nose and opens the nasal passages.


Acupressure points of colon 20 (LI20) are located on the face, on both sides of the root of the nose. They relieve pressure on the sinuses:

Find the spot where your nose meets your cheeks.

Place a finger on your face on both sides of the nostrils and press.


The bladder 2 (BL2) pressure points are located between the bridge of the nose and the inside of the upper eyelid. Try to relieve pressure in the sinuses and around the eyes:

  • Place your index fingers over the bridge of your nose with both hands.
  • Slide your fingers into the tiny depressions between your eyebrows and nose.
  • Put your fingers here. You should be able to feel the firmness of your frontal bone.


Find the pressure point SI 18 by drawing a line from the outer corner of your eye down to the hollow area of your cheekbone. 

Stimulating this point helps with sinus congestion and pain, as well as toothache. To locate them:

  • Place the index finger of both hands on the outer edge of each eye.
  • Slide your fingers down until you can feel the underside of your cheekbones.
  • This area should be about level with the bottom of your nose.
  • Press on these points at the same time or in succession.

5) GOVERNOR VESSEL 24.5 (GV 24.5)

GV 24.5 is the acupoint that clears nasal congestion and pressure as well as relieves a headache. GV 24.5 is located on the head about an inch above your eyebrows, in line with your nose, in between your two eyes, and just above your cheekbones.

Locate this point by placing the middle finger of one hand on either side of your nostrils while placing one thumb directly below it and the other over it. Massage this point using small circular motions until you feel some relief.


The pressure point GB 20 is located where the base of the skull and the upper part of the neck meet. 

Applying pressure here can relieve breathing difficulties, headaches, and coughs. It also helps to relax the mind, and relieve stress, insomnia, neck pain, and stiffness. 
Here is the easiest way to apply pressure to these pressure points yourself: 

  • Interlace your fingers with your palms in front of you and form a bowl with your hands.
  • Bring the bowl shape over your head and place your palms against the back of your head. Your thumbs are free to apply pressure and massage the 20 GB points.
  • During the massage, you may choose to massage these areas with upward and downward movements rather than circular movements.


The pressure point LI 4 is located in the groove between the thumb and index finger on the back of the hand. 

Pressure on this point helps with sinus pain, headaches, anxiety, and neck pain. It is also a good point to stimulate before going to bed. 
The points are located about half an inch from the crease between your thumb and hand. Here is how to find them:

  • Put your hand so that your thumb is facing you.
  • Find the place where your thumb is connected to your hand.
  • Hold your thumb close to your hand. Look for the place where the muscle between your thumb and index finger bulges. One way to find this spot is to place your thumb against your index finger, forming a bulge on the back of your hand. Place your other thumb or another finger on this protrusion.
  • Relax your hand again and apply pressure to this area with the finger of your other hand.

8) LUNG 5 (LU 5)

The LU 5 acupressure point is located on the inside of the crease of the elbow and one finger width further out. Bend your elbow slightly as you apply pressure. 

Stimulating the point helps to clear the sinuses and relieve sinus pressure. This also helps with sinus pain,  which can relieve pain and a runny nose, sore throat, asthma, cough, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. 
Here is how to find them:

  • Hold your arm outstretched in front of you so that your palm is facing up.
  • Apply pressure to your forearm muscle dips slightly when connected to your elbow.
  • Repeat the process and alternate arms.

9) LUNG 9 (LU 9)

The LU 9 point, also known as the Great Abyss, is an acupressure point located on the inside of both wrists below the thumb. It is located between the tendons of the index finger and the thumb. It is one of the most commonly used points in acupuncture and is considered to be a very powerful point.

The LU 9 point is used to treat a variety of conditions including headaches, dizziness, anxiety, and fatigue. How to find them:

  • Put your hand in front of you so that the palm is facing you.
  • Find the crease where your hand connects to your wrist.
  • Put your finger on the crease just below your thumb.
  • Repeat the process and switch hands.

10) LIVER 3 (LV 3)

The pressure point LV 3 is often used and is located on the top of both feet. You will find it two finger widths lower in the gap between the big toe and the second toe.

This point can help relieve pain around the eye, headaches, nausea, bloating, weakness, and leg pain.  How to find them:

  • Sit with your knees bent and place your feet in front of you.
  • Put your finger in the area between your big toe and the next toe.
  • Slide your finger about two finger widths up the foot. 
  • Apply pressure to this spot. Apply pressure to both feet at the same time or one at a time.

How to Do Acupressure for Your Sinus

Sinuses are pockets or air spaces in the bone cavities behind your nose. When these air pockets get infected, they fill with mucus and press on the nasal passage. They cause nasal congestion, which is an obstruction to breathing caused by a runny nose or allergies. With improper treatment of this infection, a sinus infection may occur that can trigger headaches and fever.

Acupressure is a form of treatment for sinus pressure points done without needles. To relieve the symptoms of sinus pressure points, all you need to do is massage different pressure points in your face using finger pressure.

  • Steep a tea bag in boiling water for five minutes to release the potent antibacterial properties of herbs like thyme, ginger, chamomile, peppermint, or eucalyptus. 
  • Put honey into the cup before adding the steeped tea so it absorbs its medicinal properties while you sleep. 
  • Add lemon juice to thin out mucus while increasing antibiotic strength with vitamin C. 
  • Let it cool before drinking.
